Since 2005, Don Whitney has been Associate Professor of Biblical Spirituality at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky, where he also serves as Senior Associate Dean. Before that, he held a similar position (the first such position in the six Southern Baptist seminaries) at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Missouri, for ten years. He is the founder and president of The Center for Biblical Spirituality.

Regularly attending church will also help you grow in the faith. The church is the regular gathering of God’s people to worship Him, learn His Word, and engage in fellowship. We worship God by singing songs that teach us His Word (Colossians 3:16). We learn His Word by joining a Sunday Morning Bible Study (held prior to the worship service), and by listening carefully to sermons rooted in the Bible. We also find Christian fellowship in the church. While the church is made up of imperfect people, we strive to love one another (John 13:34-35) and treat each other with humility (Philippians 2:3). God has designed us for fellowship and social relationships.

Because these things happen when the church meets, it’s very important that you find a church you can regularly attend. At the church we meet to encourage one another as the Bible says, “And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near” (Hebrews 10:24-25). At Bayou View you will find people who will love you. I believe you will make the best friends you could have at our church.

Thank you for visiting the website of Bayou View Baptist Church.  At Bayou View we are striving to make disciples by teaching God’s Word (Matthew 28:18-20).  We are unified and working together to spread the Gospel (Philippians 1:27).  In all that we do, we are striving to glorify and honor God (1 Corinthians 10:31).  Every time I stand before our congregation my goal is to proclaim and teach God’s Word.  It is my desire that the people of Bayou View grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ (2 Peter 3:18).

I think the best way for this to happen is through regular preaching and teaching of the Bible.  Humanity’s deepest needs are addressed in God’s Word.  The Bible is a very relevant book and deals with all the real-life issues we face.  If you want to learn more about the Bible, and want to grow to know Jesus Christ more fully, Bayou View is the church for you.  If you have any questions, please feel free to call our church office.
